New Design – All Square Contemporary Garden

Another new design – it’s been a busy year – and we’re very proud of this one.  Crisp and clean but highly functional it transformed the space for maximum use.  Bespoke blue glass panels by LightKiln Glass set off the modern planting and slate paving.

The full page for the design can be found here. Please Contact Us if we can help you with your garden.

New Design – Courtyard Garden

This is one of our more recent designs for a small garden in Cardiff.  The original space lacked function and definition so we created a design that segmented the space with bespoke panels and created views even though the garden is quite small.  Now finished and planted the owners are delighted.

These are just a few taster photos – the full design page is here

New Design – Minimalist White Chic Urban Garden

Minimalist White Chic Urban Garden min-white-materials min-white-2nd-design-l min-white-upper3-plan

We transformed this small garden in Roath, Cardiff into a modern and contemporary entertaining space.  By removing the old garage that wasn’t really used we increased the overall space by more than a third allowing two  separate areas – dining and cooking, as well as lush specimen planting.

Contrasting materials including sawn sandstone and composite decking were used to provide a clean crisp finish.  Lighting and a water feature that works it’s way through the length of the garden completed the effect.

Site Visit – Steeply Sloping Front Garden

p1000871

This is a steeply sloping, wide but shallow front garden that we planted last year.  Originally turfed and a nightmare to maintain it was a typical new build garden.  Poor soil and grass that was struggling.  We renewed the soil and stripped off the turf.  Then we used new FSC timber sleepers to create mini-tiers.  We chose an Amelanchier candanensis as a feature tree against the bare two storey brick wall.  It’s a great small tree with lovely blossom as you can see from the pictures, and even better autumn colour.

The rest of the site was planted with a mix of shrubs and herbaceous perennials to give year round interest.  Mixed green and blue slate of different grades were used as a deep mulch.

Site Visit – Fruit, Vegetable and Cutting Garden

p1000921 p1000917

Our client gets a lot of rabbits in their garden but was keen to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers for arranging.  We built them this large enclosure and planted the fruit last year.  Lots of species including summer and autumn raspberries, red, green and yellow gooseberries, red, white and blackcurrants, blueberries and more.  Elsewhere  in the garden we have planted apples, pears and quinces.  All the fruit beds have weed fabric fitted and mulch laid – so no weeds – low maintenance indeed.

This year we’ll be planting vegetables in the enclosure as well as annuals for flower arranging and for inclusion in the ornamental garden elsewhere on the site.

If you’d like to grow your own fruit, vegetables or flowers for cutting, maybe we can help.  Contact us here.

New Design – Garden Room Garden

Here’s a garden we designed which was built and planted last year. The client had built a contemporary glass garden room and wanted a space built adjacent to it to provide a focal point and an entertaining space.  We’ll be back later in the year to take photos of it in full bloom.

New Design – High Terrace Garden

bigterrace10

Another new design added to the website.  This one is a Newport garden that was originally two levels, unfortunately the upper level was over 3 metres higher than the patio.  The design maximised the upper level creating over 100 square metres of level lawn.  The lower patio design featured a sweeping set of steps and dramatic up-lit wall panels made from sandstone.  Check out more details of our design for this challenging garden here.

Because we’re based in South Wales we get a lot of sloping or terraced gardens to look at.  If we can help you with yours please Contact Us

New Design – Knot Garden with Holly Standards

knot-act-5

We’re finally getting around to adding some more recent designs to our gallery.  Here’s a knot garden that we put in for a client last year along the front of their contemporary house in Cardiff.  We’re pleased how it is establishing. Knot Gardens are great as they are low maintenance (trim once or twice a year) and provide evergreen structure and form to the space.  With this one we set off the box hedging with slate cube planters with topiary holly and golden flint gravel.  Other male hollies were planted elsewhere in the garden to ensure berries.  For an extra touch we added blue silver Crocus tommasinianus to the containers for early spring interest.
